Project Manager - Norwich

Main purpose of post:-

Familiar with project frameworks such as NEC3, this position requires the detailed commercial management & activity co-ordination associated with project fulfilment, meeting all contractual, legislative & business requirements (such as margin). Crucial to the role is close liaison with internal & external stakeholders to assess, communicate & manage risk, & marshal events, activities & resources so that milestones & deliverables are achieved. Monitoring & reporting contractual & commercial status to stakeholders is an essential requirement of the post necessitating excellent communication, analytical & quantitative / commercial skills.


The key objectives of the appointment are to:-

1. Based on the NEC3 contract (or an internally approved variant) assume project leadership for assigned projects, encompassing:-

  • The implementation of Project Charters, which alongside the management thereof, ensure that projects fully satisfy all customer, Company, contractual, commercial & regulatory / legislative standards & objectives.
  • Planning & scope definition, including the definition of all associated standards & targets / key measures of performance.
  • Time & cost estimation (spent & to go) & adherence to budgets.
  • Activity planning & sequencing, inclusive of variations.
  • Strong & effective communication & liaison (using written & verbal formats) with stakeholders (including the client & delivery partners) in order to resource plan & to fulfil all commitments & meet all targets.
  • Invoicing & applications for payment, underpinned by full & comprehensive documentation.
  • Risk identification, analysis & management (including where applicable, the assessment of obsolescence).
  • Maintain a full understanding of test, commissioning & site-based requirements & activities.

2. When necessary, undertake specific scalability & portability analysis.

3. Ensure full compliance with the Company’s Business Assurance Standards in all relevant reporting, documentation, record keeping & procedures.

4. Own, implement & review written Risk Assessments & Method Statements for associated activities, such as site works.

5. Maintain intimate knowledge of the relevant parts of the Health & Safety At Work Act, the Construction (Design & Management) Regulations & all other appropriate Regulations. Ensure they are complied with.

6. Develop knowledge, which is subsequently embedded within the process & knowledge systems to improve & inform decision making.

7. Champion internal process development, identifying & removing waste / non-value added activities.

8. Ensure full compliance with the Company’s Business Assurance Standards in all relevant reporting, documentation, record keeping & procedures.

9. Attend customer’s sites whenever required.

10. Fully support excellent working practices, including:

Experience, attainments & other aptitudes:-

  • At least 2 years previous professional experience within a similar role.
  • Demonstrable experience in the following areas:
    • Project management.
    • Budgetary management.
    • Management of Engineering & Construction Contacts (such as NEC3).
    • Procurement.
    • Collaborative / partnership working.
  • Excellent ICT skills – including, but not limited to, Word Processing, Spreadsheets & Databases.
  • 5 years’ experience.
  • Working CAD knowledge.
  • Knowledge of the Water Industry.
  • Mechanical aptitude.
  • Knowledge of electrical wiring regulations & Machinery Directive.
  • Prince II Practitioner.
  • Educated to a minimum of a HNC (or equivalent) in an engineering or science discipline.
  • Degree in an engineering or science discipline.
