Production Operative - Mechanically or Electrically Based

Main purpose of post:-

The position requires a competent & highly motivated hands-on team player to ensure the Company’s products are built/assembled ‘right first time’ efficiently, in compliance with designs & specifications, & to production schedules. The nature of work can include fitting of piping, electrical componentry & the installation of sub-assemblies & large equipment/apparatus. Occasional site work may be required from time to time.


The key objectives of the appointment are to:-

1. Advise of any issues (including a lack of knowledge) prior to the commencement of work.

2. Depending on discipline and/or training completed, undertake the mechanical assembly & copper work (where applicable) & the wiring of equipment, in accordance with procedures, instructions & drawings.

3. Depending on discipline and/or training completed, undertake the mechanical assembly & pipe work (where applicable), in accordance with procedures, instructions & drawings.

4. Check issued components/equipment complies with job parts lists/Bill of Materials.

5. Report problems, errors, shortages to Production Management as soon as possible.

6. Prepare finished equipment for dispatch. Load/unload vehicles as required, in accordance with Safe Working Practices & always applying care & vigilance.

7. As & when required, attend site to assist with site-based activities, such as installation (note, this can be UK wide). Training and/or completion of trade/competency validation may be required.

8. Liaise & communicate effectively with all site & other stakeholders (including customers).

9. Help ensure that the workplace (on or off site) is exceptional in terms of cleanliness & housekeeping (based on the 5S).

10. Ensure that all tools & work equipment (benches & cases) are safe, orderly, & clean.

11. Fully support excellent working practices, including:

Experience, attainments & other aptitudes:-

  • Ability to interpret electrical drawings.
  • Ability to meet production schedule within time allowed.
  • Ability to meet & wherever possible exceed quality with zero defects or errors.
  • At least 6 months experience in a similar role.
  • Excellent knowledge of Health & Safety in the Workplace.
  • A good understanding of control panel assembly.
  • A good understanding of plastic pipework fabrication.
  • Site working experience.
  • Experience of Continuous Improvement.
  • A good standard of secondary education.
    • GCSE above grade ‘C’ in English, Maths & Science.
    • City & Guilds level 2 in Electrical & /or Mechanical Engineering.
    • Qualified to current edition of the IET Wiring Regulations.
